Physics of Consciousness
نویسنده
چکیده
Conscious experience is an experience, i.e. a particular relaxation of mind/body system. Mental events are stable reverberations of sets of neural cell assemblies. Dynamical models based on this assumption allow to explain a large body of empirical evidence, such as the content of consciousness in dynamical illusions and subjective ordering of events in experiments with short-time direct stimulation of neurocortex.

Physics and Consciousness
Some contributions of physics towards the understanding of consciousness are described. As recent relevant models, associative memory neural networks are mentioned. It is shown that consciousness and quantum physics share some properties. Two existing quantum models are discussed.
متن کاملQuantum Information Research Supports Consciousness as Information
The "energy" dominance in physics has made it difficult to develop widely accepted theories of mind that explains consciousness and intention. Recent research in the unification of quantum gravity theories for black holes has proven that information is primary to the structure of quantum mechanics and therefore introduces an "It from Bit" perspective for the universe that has relevance for cons...
متن کاملIs Consciousness the Unified Field? A Field Theorist's Perspective
Progress in theoretical physics during the past decade has led to a progressively more unified understanding of the laws of nature, culminating in the recent discovery of completely unified field theories. The parallel discovery of a unified field of consciousness raises fundamental questions concerning the relationship between the two. Following a general introduction to unified quantum field ...
متن کاملAn integration of integrated information theory with fundamental physics
To truly eliminate Cartesian ghosts from the science of consciousness, we must describe consciousness as an aspect of the physical. Integrated Information Theory states that consciousness arises from intrinsic information generated by dynamical systems; however existing formulations of this theory are not applicable to standard models of fundamental physical entities. Modern physics has shown t...
متن کاملFrom Physicality to Mathematicality, to Informaticality, to Consciousness, and Ontology, or, what Mathematics cannot describe is Ontology
Extraordinary mathematicality of physics is also shown by dimensionlessness of Planck spacetime and mass. At the same time the Planck granularity of spacetime also shows that physics can be simulated by a binary computer. So physics is informational. But mathematics is not everything in physics, consciousness cannot be solely explained by mathematics. The reason that quantum gravity (QG) does n...
متن کاملNight Thoughts of a Quantum Physicist
The most dramatic developments in theoretical physics in the next millennium are likely to come when we make progress on so far unresolved foundational questions. In this essay I consider two of the deepest problems confronting us, the measurement problem in quantum theory and the problem of relating consciousness to the rest of physics. I survey some recent promising ideas on possible solution...
